Abraham Bilyeu, PhD, Licensed Psychologist
Dr. Abraham Bilyeu is a Licensed Psychologist in the state of Michigan who specializes in individual and couples therapy. A hallmark of his practice is the belief that we all have potential for growth and the ability to create meaning in our lives. In addition, Abraham specializes in helping males more fully understand themselves and how masculinity impacts their lives and relationships. He focuses on helping both men and women reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety by clarifying personal values and collaboratively working toward these in and outside of therapy. Strengthening relationships and building support is a key component to much of his therapeutic work. He draws from an interpersonal and psychodynamic therapeutic orientation while incorporating CBT, ACT, and strength based techniques.
Abraham received his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Dakota and completed his pre-doctoral internship at Michigan State’s Counseling Center. He has taught collegiate and graduate courses on Counseling Ethics and Dialogues on US Diversity, and has provided supervision for doctoral students and master level clinicians. His clinical interests include anxiety, depression, grief, and LGBTQ+ issues. Abraham is originally from Iowa and received his bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University. He has worked in a variety of settings including outpatient clinics, college counseling centers and integrative-care facilities. When he is not working, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, running, reading, and following collegiate and professional sports.
