Kathy Carruthers, LMSW, CAADC
Kathy is a Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW) and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC), and she is attending Walden University for her Doctorate of Social Work (DSW) with a specialty in addiction. She earned her Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Grand Valley State University.
Before coming to Pine Rest, Kathy worked at a community mental health organization and served patients with severe and chronic mental illness, co-occurring disorders, borderline personality disorder, mood disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Also, she worked as part of the deaf and hard of hearing program in Kent County, provided community-based substance-abuse services, and provided outpatient therapy services to children, families and individuals.
Kathy uses several different treatment modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), solution-focused therapy (SFT), and motivational interviewing. She is willing to weave spirituality into any of her treatment modalities, and she also specializes in serving the deaf and hard of hearing.
