Kelly aims to create a safe, supportive, empathic and validating environment for the clients that she sees. It is a privilege to walk alongside each client as they open up their lives, and work toward improving their lives, managing their emotions, relationships and behaviors. Kelly utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance commitment therapy, exposure response prevention therapy, and supportive therapy. She has particular interest working with individuals who are struggling with eating disorders, body image concerns, trauma, sexual abuse and spiritual issues. She is working on Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (CEDS) certification through the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals. She has experience working with adjustment disorders, anxiety, depression, and mood disorders, as well as adult children of alcoholics, parent and child trauma, self harm, social anxiety, women’s issues, and spiritual concerns.
In her free time, Kelly enjoys spending time with her family, serving at her church via discipleship and hospitality, playing and watching sports, running, and reading.
Kelly participates with Faith Community Outreach, an initiative within Pine Rest that seeks to connect area clergy, churches, and ministries to services available from Pine Rest; as well as develop new services specifically designed to benefit the faith community.
I am a Christian counselor with a psychology degree from Calvin College, and a master's degree in social work from Grand Valley State University. I have been serving in my home church for eight years, providing discipleship to adolescents while leading a small group of students. As a clinical therapist, I have been providing counseling services to adolescents, families, and adults for the last four and a half years.
Living out my faith is a key aspect of my life. Extending Christ's compassion and mercy, while turning to His truth is a main focus of how I encourage and assist other believers. I believe that there is healing, peace, restoration, and freedom in Christ. Knowing your identity in Christ, and having the everlasting assurance of His truth, peace, and grace can assist with breaking the hold that can be created through the brokenness of this world. I would love to help you understand who you are in Christ, how to let go of the hurt and pain caused by sin and the brokenness of this world, and understand the truth of Christ and His word. I believe that some of our difficulties and hardships occur because of the enemy, and renouncing him and letting go of his lies, while replacing the lies with the Truth and Holy Spirit can help bring restoration.
I would like to use prayer, scripture, discussion of your faith or struggles, and intercession as a way to assist with your healing journey, and allow you to experience freedom in Christ.
