Ryan Jaarsma, PsyD, Licensed Psychologist
Dr. Ryan Jaarsma recently moved to the Campus Clinic to get back to his roots as a practicing psychologist. Although he has worn several different “hats” for Pine Rest (including Manager at the Southwest Clinic, Executive Director of the Family Institute and Training Director for the Pre-Doctoral Psychology Internship program), he keeps coming back to the work that he is most passionate about – working with clients and their families. Dr. Jaarsma states, “I love working with individuals, couples and families to help bring about emotional and relational healing. Every person has a unique story, with difficulties and hurts they’ve encountered on their journey. What makes therapy special is the opportunity to see how problems can be worked through and how life can be improved. I will listen to you (and your family member) to understand your situation and provide feedback to help you grow, gain insight, and feel better. The best therapy is a collaborative enterprise with a healthy mix of support and challenge. I look forward to meeting you and working together in that process.
Dr. Jaarsma’s approach integrates cognitive-behavioral, dynamic and systemic tools into therapy, based on the client’s needs and issues. He is an active member of the Perinatal Mood Disorder group and the Faith Community Outreach initiative at Pine Rest. He received his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College in 1998, has been married for 13 years and has three children aged 10, 8 and 5. He also enjoys hiking in the mountains, going to outdoor concerts with his wife, and playing sports with his kids.
